The Pyramid Ring is part of the Franchi Geometria jewelry series, characterized by dynamic geometry and a contemporary exploration of the Golden Ratio, a mathematic proportion that infatuated great minds from Euclid to da Vinci, Le Corbusier to Dalí. This proportion is present in many works of architecture and art from the Pantheon in Greece to the pyramids in Egypt. These visual relationships were not only considered aesthetically the most beautiful, but so pervasive throughout nature that even Catholic clergy termed them divine. Leonardo da Vinci was also enthralled by "sacred geometry", in fact illustrating 65 plates of a compendium on the subject around 1498, De Divina Proportione. In the Pyramid ring, the Franchi workshop continues the tradition of exploring this subject with a pair of triangular elements. While respecting Renaissance methods to make the piece by hand, the artisans imbue their forms with an unmistakably contemporary aesthetic and technically sophisticated play on texture.
