The Fibonacci Ring is part of the Franchi Geometria jewelry series, characterized by dynamic geometry and a contemporary exploration of the Golden Ratio, a mathematic proportion that infatuated great minds from Euclid to da Vinci, Le Corbusier to Dalí. This unique ring takes its name from Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci (c. 1170 - c. 1250) who provided the groundwork for Renaissance intellectuals fascinated with the inherent patterns and harmony of the physical world. These visual relationships that corresponded to his eponymous number series were not only considered aesthetically the most beautiful, but so pervasive throughout nature that even Catholic clergy termed them divine. Leonardo da Vinci was also enthralled by "sacred geometry", in fact illustrating 65 plates of a compendium on the subject around 1498, De Divina Proportione. With the Fibonacci ring, the Franchi workshop continues the tradition of exploring this subject with a series of rectangular elements. While respecting Renaissance methods to make the piece by hand, the artisans imbue their forms with an unmistakably contemporary aesthetic and play on texture.
